    SPICE performance sluggish

I am curious how this resolved. I suspect a HW issue.

Confused about raw image on zfs, qemu-img won't work?

:) OK, I do agree -- shouldn't have been quite so dogmatic about impossibilities :) At some point it's possible to bit-twiddle ANYthing LOL! Interestingly, even with thin provisioning, performance does vary. (My suspicion: if transferring using a "dumb" utility, it may actually move 450GB of...

Confused about raw image on zfs, qemu-img won't work?

Thanks for the thoughts! I've done additional research and for now have solved my issues, and also learned a bunch. NOTE: ALL of this is applies to GPT (or MBR) Disk/partition management on all typical OS (Linux, MacOS, Windows). First, a few answers for the curious: 1) Why am I even looking...

Confused about raw image on zfs, qemu-img won't work?

Questions: How do I avoid creating a ZVOL when setting up a VM??? Perhaps by putting images in local instead of local-zfs? Is there a way to convert a ZVOL to a normal image file?

Confused about raw image on zfs, qemu-img won't work?

I am working on a Win10 image. It's too big; want to shrink it. I reduced the partition sizes so I have under 52GB of partitions in a 500GB raw virtual disk. Config info below. The hard part: the image (in my local-zfs storage) is actually apparently a set of links to /dev/zd48* which are...

Setting Up LACP Bond with VLAN Trunk and Bridge

I suspect the Wiki is simply incorrect. I have no sense one can add a VLAN directly to a bond. Maybe it has changed with ProxMox 8??? What DOES work (I've not repeated exactly yours, but this is like mine using my card, vmbr and vlan numbers): ... auto bond0 iface bond0 inet manual...

LAG for VLAN trunk not working??!

(UPDATE: actually I had a configuration error. ProxMox can largely work around my error if I tell it about my PVID... but not completely. I have edited this reply to reflect reality...) I FOUND IT!!! Got remote SSH Wireshark running and stared for a while. I finally realized: when the bridge...

LAG for VLAN trunk not working??!

Could be! THANK YOU for that link. Even though much of what is on that page does not apply to ProxMox (we use ifupdown2 for one, and it has nothing about /etc/network/interfaces, and...) ... much DOES apply. I'm going to simplify. Apparently, having an embedded VLAN trunk that is not used by...

LAG for VLAN trunk not working??!

Hmmm... Proxmox AND the switch think the LAG is working fine in every case However, data is not being passed in both directions (I see ARP requests from the switch side of the trunk at the host but that's about it Even w/o the bond I think I have things to learn: vmbr2 is defined as...

LAG for VLAN trunk not working??!

Sorry for the delay. Real Life intruded ;) Two cases: first, my almost-bonded trunk, working just fine. Then, the fully bonded trunk, which doesn't work. I'll post the first for now. Can't interrupt a huge backup process until tomorrow am... Context Notes: vmbr0 is my host access vmbr1 is...

Lessons learned about using NFS shared storage in a ProxMox environment (w/ Synology?)

fio gives interesting results... on write, I can easily saturate the link. Reads? Have not found a way to get anywhere close. I suspect the far end somehow... but needs more time to dig than I have right now.

LAG for VLAN trunk not working??!

Having a spare set of 1GBe ports and a switch that supports LACP (GS748Tv5), I thought I'd bump the performance of my VLAN trunk. What I have had fully working for over a year: (switch) <---> (ProxMox Host enXXX physical) -> (Host vmbr2, VLAN-aware) -> pfSense VM For a different purpose, I...

Lessons learned about using NFS shared storage in a ProxMox environment (w/ Synology?)

It's possible some of the following is specific to my environment... but having read a ton of threads to solve my issues, I suspect these are more general insights gained. NFS has had serious reliability problems when it comes to rebuilding broken links... until version 4.1 Before that...

SSD or HHD for Proxmox Server

Good question. It's been shown (by an IBM researcher... need to re-lookup the reference) that bitrot can seriously affect SSD's, even (especially) when sectors are never overwritten. On Windoze I now have a habit (and recommend) of running the free DiskFresh app about 2-3 times a year on all...

7.4->8.1 Why did NIC devices change so radically... on ONE of two hosts?

@shanreich @spirit @ness1602 After MUCH hassle, I've learned a few things. The following is mostly documented at https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Network_Configuration This is all due to occasional "improvements" in "naming schemes." I could have avoided much hassle by setting a fixed naming scheme...

7.4->8.1 Why did NIC devices change so radically... on ONE of two hosts?

7.4->8.1 Why did NIC devices change so radically... on ONE of two hosts?

I have two almost identical host boxes (HP Z2 G5, with Intel I350 multi-port nic, etc. Nice ;) ) They've been running great on 7.0 through 7.4 Time to upgrade to 8.1 Key item is NIC id's as I have a rich networking environment (pfSense HA, multiple VLANs, etc). Driver is igb... One box went...

[SOLVED] ACME certificates with Dreamhost DNS validation

Thanks for this! I was tearing out some of my (very limited) hair over this. In my case, the delay need not be more than a few seconds. Not sure why it's sooo quick now.

How to clear a QCOW2, to restart VM install from scratch?

AWESOME!!! That's perfect! I was looking for something like this, never found it in searching the thin-provisioned info. Soooo easy. :)

How to clear a QCOW2, to restart VM install from scratch?

Doable, but not available in the GUI. At that point, it's about as easy to delete the entire VM and start over (which is what I finally did, copying and pasting the MAC so I didn't have to redo the assigned static IP in my DHCP server...)
