Ultimately I would like to be able to install Proxmox on a Mac hardware or as a software on Mac OS X in such a way that I can create openvz containers from the proxmox interface on Mac.
I managed to install proxmox as the OS on an old Mac Pro, the first generation of Mac Pro with Intel...
Bandwidth costs a lot at some datacenters. Sometimes we would run into a scenario where some containers start to consume a lot of bandwidth and it is very difficult to trace them on a per OpenVZ container level.
I would be great if the Proxmox team can integrate a bandwidth application to...
ON our end we have been testing with openvz vps and when we turned off HyperThreading on our Xeon 5520 system, the load spikes almost went away.
However after adding a couple of active VPS with traffic to now see if it works fine, we still get some spikes. Currently we are running Proxmox...
I would actually like to bring a small correction here with respect to CPU Units on OpenVZ:
1. CPU Units of 1000 does not mean that you get 1/10th of the cpu time for the particular vm
2. The maximum units is not 500000
CORRECTION:
According to the OpenVZ manual: CPU units are the...
When I plugin an external USB drive, it auto load using the scsi emulator as sdb.
However everytime the server is rebooted, it no longer recognizes neither the USB hard drive, nor the sata internal drive (proxmox is running on a hardware RAID card, no on internal sata).
The only way to...
Our of curiosity, what kind of bandwidth do you get with your hw RAID10 8x640GB SATA?
What do you get running pveperf on no load and with your current load?
I wanted to provide an update on this issue of Xeon 5520 load spikes vs Xeon 5400 series.
I re-installed Proxmox 1.2 on the nehalem server. Migrated back a few openvz vps on it.
I already spotted one load spike today. So I would say the issue is still there. I will continue to monitor...
Re: Server sometimes slow - Xeon 5520 vs Xeon 5472
Between 9:10am and 9:30am this morning I backuped up and restored two active openvz vps from the nehalem 5520 (new host) to xeon 5472 (old host) which is the previous host we were using.
One of the two containers is one of the heaviest of...
Dietmar I already confirmed as well that the mysql seems to be the one pushing the load high. What I do not understand is why does this end up in spikes?
If the general load is small that means that the vpss are not that demanding.
1. Why would mysql sometimes create spikes?
2. And...
OK Dietmar, is there any reason why the openvz servers would do excessive fsync? If so what can be done to reduce it?
Would you think that the performance would be the same if one were to run openvz straight from the guess host vs through proxmox? What is the technical difference?
We only...
Good point. However we are running a hardware raid card (adaptec 5405z) which under no load gives around 500MB/s bandwidth. And we only have about 10 openvz vps on this server.
Update: It is also worth mentioning that the server on overage is on very low load. The load spikes approximately one...
As I continue analyzing what is going on on the server, here is a strange piece of stats.
If you look at the samples for 7:40am and 7:50am, you notice that the server load was very high (14.64 and 20.57), but the CPU were over 90% idle. How can we explain this?
I am starting to believe...
@dietmar
This host never ran proxmox 1.1. It was purchased and proxmox 1.3 was installed on it and then upgraded to 1.4 beta and then to 1.4.
The previous host was running 1.1 and was then updated to 1.4. Today I am going to re-install 1.2 on the previous host and hope that the vps are...
Where is the url to the driver update you are referring to?
I am not sure if this applies to us even though we run a RAID controller for the drives that is directly attached through pci...
@Dietmar,
I just uploaded the pve-kernel-2.6.24-2-pve_2.6.24-5_amd64.deb kernel and rebooted the production server and as soon as the server was up (I was working through kvm), nether the server, nor the containers were reachable over the internet. I could ping the server IP but I could not...
I never collected data when running on 1.1 and I did not have clients complain about occasional speeds. I was trying to setup the old host again to test on it but it is not picking up IPs as I posted on this thead http://www.proxmox.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2487
We recently migrated all the containers from an old host (xeon 5470) to a new host (xeon 5520).
While both servers are up, on the same network and the new host has been running fine for a while, we just created a new openvz vps on the old host and assigned one of the free IPs on the network...
