[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

I did not know that! I always thought open air would give the best/lowest temperatures. Oh yes, the TDP, that would be why I opted against anything higher. I had wondered about swapping out the PSU but it seemed complicated and I was unsure if the temperature sensor and acoustics would be...

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

9!! Wow, including a big one outside the bays lol! Do you keep the cover off like that? I have 6 in mine and could also manage 9 but don’t have any real need for it at this time. Why Xeon E3-1240v2 and not E3-1265v2 ?? I have passed through the whole controller to add extra external drives but...

This is awesome! You are a MS Gen8 expert lol How do you know which USB port corresponds to which number?

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

Do you know if it’s possible to passthrough a single USB port to a VM on MicroServer Gen8?

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

What I meant is in the Building from sources section you include the following line: git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/kiler129/relax-intel-rmrr.git The patch is already built rather than the user creating and editing files to build it (as per the original post in this thread). You really...

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

One thing I would say is it would be better if you gave instructions to build the actual patch rather than clone the repo to download it. It good for the user to know exactly what changes they are making, as per the original instructions in this thread.

This is excellent if it works out. I will give it a try for sure! Thanks.

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

So for the non-technical (myself), are you saying you have passthrough working on the latest kernels? :D

Boot Message: No Caching mode page found... (Proxmox 6.2)

Hey all, When I restart the system, at the login prompt I see the following messages: [sde] No Caching mode page found [sde] Assuming drive cache: write through I have read around the forums and understand this is more information than error, but issue is when that message is displayed I can...

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

Yes, I meant compiling a patched kernel in a VM to then copy over the .deb files to my main Proxmox host to install/use. Does this RMRR patch need to be created/compiled in Proxmox or can I use any Debian-based distro to do it?

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

I have tried that already, it doesn’t work. I think the issue is with what has changed/moved around since 5.3 has not been documented by the Proxmox team other than saying some drivers are now built into the kernel. There must be a way of getting it working...

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

Oh great! If I were to run Pop!_OS ! Debian or Ubuntu in a VM, would I be able to use that to compile a Proxmox kernel? (as I type that it sounds like an obvious NO lol); if not, can I run Proxmox in a Proxmox VM for the purpose of this particular task only? I have my VMs on a separate SSD which...

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

Can I ask why Pop!_OS is your distro of choice? Any reason why you prefer it to plain Debian or Ubuntu?

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

I myself am thinking of just using a simple distro with QEMU/KVM/Libvirt and kind of agree with what you say, I just think it’s a shame that a real solution was never found.

    Booting from hard disk hang.....

I doubt that is the reason as I received the same error when I tried to passthrough and it worked again when I took the passthrough off.

Some screenshots would be nice too.

[TUTORIAL] Compile Proxmox VE with patched intel-iommu driver to remove RMRR check

It's a bit of a shame that whenever someone tries to get to the bottom of these passthrough issues they end up giving up or finding an alternative solution. Proxmox staff seem to avoid getting involved in these thread for there'd most part too. It's something that definitely needs looking at for...
