Thanks, so this posix_fallocate is better to use than ‘Full’ I guess…
I don’t suppose it’s possible to mix and match (different Preallocation for different VMs)?
If I have it on default and I switch to Full will all VMs suddenly take up all their required space?
That Preallocation option could do with some documentation. I could not find it in the online Wiki or the Documentation when you click ‘Help’ from the Storage dilog.
What is the difference between ’Full’ and ‘Full (posix_fallocate)’ ??
If I already have existing encrypted LVM setup on a disk and I want to use the 'LVM' storage type in Proxmox GUI, is that possible? When I try to setup anything other than 'Directory' the disk is already showing as full, I guess because the underlying LVM is taking up the full disk...
Oh wow, no wonder my first SSD died with unexplainably little use!
Are there use cases where Directory may be better than LVM? Did you not say LVM-Thin is a little more transparent in terms of security? If I already have a VM setup on Directory how easy is it to back it up, erase the Directory...
Hey hows it going yall,
I have read up on the differences between the two and see the the differences between Block level and File level storage. I also see that Snapshots are possible with Directory storage when using the Qcow2 format. When creating VMs and virtual disks on Directory storage I...
I find it easier if you map first and then put the path to map rather than disk by-id. Sadly mine is down at the moment so I can’t take a look and get some screenshots.
I have been experiencing a few performance and stability issues with the latest kernels and find that, for now at least, the older 5.4x kernels work a lot better with my hardware. I recently updated to the latest 5.15x kernel and while doing this I also checked to see what others are available...
I have not looked into mdadm or RAID yet. I also see the expert installer only allows up to sha256.
Is 1M enough for GRUB? How do you get it on there once you have partitioned? I didn’t see any option to install the boot loader on multiple partitions…
Ok I have another question :)
Technically more of a Debian question but as I’m installing Proxmox over it’s a valid one…
Is it possible to install Debian onto LUKS encrypted LVM with a gpt partition table, sha512, and self-created custom partitions? The Debian installer formats as “dos” (mbr)...
What is the point of partitioning a disk with a single (full disk) partition? I see most guides include this step but never a reason why. Partitions have always been about separation (or so I thought), but there is nothing to separate if using the full disk as a single volume. Why have /dev/sdc1...
Hello all,
When trying to shutdown I receive the following error message:
I think this may have something to do with systemd not being able to unmount / or at least that was all I could find from googling the error.
Also Loading initial ramdisk ... seems to take a while longer than expected...
The structure I see everywhere is:
sda
|__sda1
……|__volume_group
…………|__logical_volume
In what way is that better than:
sda
…|__volume_group
………|__logical_volume
If using LUKS for full disk encryption, is it better to encrypt the partition or the physical volume (I may have named them wrong)? i.e. is it best practice to encrypt sda sdb sdc, or sda1 sdb1 sdc1? Assuming they are the single partition on the disk and take up the full quota of usable storage...
Hello all,
Quick question… does anyone know if it’s possible to use PBS to backup to VeraCrypt encrypted volumes? If so, how would PBS unlock them?
Also same question regarding WD encrypted external drives…
Thanks,
Whit
