    3 node ceph concept consideration

Thank you for your answers so far! Without getting too much into a SATA vs NVMe topic, would SATA SSD's also do well in Ceph? Here I am thinking S4510 480GB SSD's, about 4 of them in each node.

    3 node ceph concept consideration

Ok how would I achieve this? Would I simply bridge the 2 interfaces together on each node? EDIT: nevermind my question, I found the answer on the proxmox Wiki. :) But anyways, you believe this would be a good setup?

    3 node ceph concept consideration

You are right, let me elaborate. They are not stacked the traditional way, but use the MLAG-technology (Arista switches). To avoid the traffic traversing the stack, would it perhaps be better to create 2 separate ceph networks with a port each, which connects to a different switch, thereby not...

    3 node ceph concept consideration

Wait what, is that really true? Would it be wiser to use 10G SFP's with optic fiber? This I am aware of but what I believe you are saying is that it's better to stay with one CPU as long as possible? :) EDIT: I decided to google a little bit and Arista has a testing document that says that...

    3 node ceph concept consideration

Hi wolfgang I am splitting the ports up in pairs. 2x10gb for vm traffic and 2x10 for ceph on each node. They all connect to a stacked 10gbe switch with DAC. It’s a dual socket system, however at the moment I only had the need to install one CPU.

PROXMOX on R720xd - Home Server Build - Looking for suggestions

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE GUIDE AT THAT LINK!!!! You will BRICK your H310 - if it’s the Mini Mono edition that connects to the special societ on the board!!!! I recently did this with my own R720xd and the thing is, you have both the Pcie version (which most people use), but there is also the Mini...

    3 node ceph concept consideration

Hi Wolfgang, About 10 VDI machines currently, mysql clusters, web servee clusters, pfsense firewalls, VPS for some friends who rent for a community and some other stuff.. totally about 40 at the moment but it may grow of course.

    3 node ceph concept consideration

    Hi all, I am currently considering to do a 3-node ceph concept containing 3 of the following hosts: - Xeon E5-2690v3 - 128gb 2133mhz DDR4 ecc memory - 1.6TB P3600 NVMe (ceph storage) - 4x10GbE networking - optionally 6x 2.5” SSD’s (1 for bootdrive) I can expand the memory to 256gb and add...

    [SOLVED] Corosync wrong bindnetaddr

Thank you, I had edited the /etc/corosync/corosync.conf file! Now that i changed the one in pve, it looks like it worked! just out of curiosity, was this really important to change back? I mean, the cluster looks to have worked nevertheless, I just noticed that it had the wrong address randomly.

    [SOLVED] Corosync wrong bindnetaddr

Hi all, I have a proxmox cluster consisting of 2 hosts (pmx01, pmx02). Cluster name is cluster01 and consisted of 2 other hosts which are now gone (pve01, pve02). Now, so far most things seems to be working right (except for some qlge driver port flapping) but I have noticed some recent...

Server 2016 Essentials Installation fails on Qemu

Hi all, I have recently setup a PVE 5.2-1 cluster of 2 hosts. I use a central NFS share to host the VM files. I wanted to install a new Server 2016 Essentials VM to replace our aging 2012 VM. I am using the 1705 version ISO of 2016 to install essentials. For storage controller I have selected...

    Ceph hardware question

Ah I see, that makes sense then. :) I have a different question though, I also have 8x WD Red (not the pro) and was wondering if these would perform okay as well? I would then get 4 more to fill up the chassis, the reason behind this is that the drives are 6tb so I would get a bit more space in...

    Ceph hardware question

I see, I just read that with bluestore, I wouldn't actually need any journaling device? Is this true?

    Ceph hardware question

Thank you for your help, I will give it a go! When you say used as block.db, do you mean as a journaling device?

    Ceph hardware question

Thank you for your response! I do also have some 1600Mhz memory but not enough to fully populate all the servers. I have heard various people saying that a 3-node cluster is not a good idea performance-wise. Is that so? I have a 4th node I could include too but would then have to get an extra...
