[SOLVED] Proxmox Notification Emails

I've set up notifications and the "test" works and delivers the email. ( I'm using smtp.gmail.com ) However, the actual notification emails never get delivered. When I check the mail queue on the Proxmox Datacenter host, I see this: ( asterisks added by me )

Anybody have any ideas here? The test emails work. I did get an email inter-day about a replication error, but the nightly notification about backups etc. continue to fail with a google SMTP server timeout.
 
I had to remove the "send email to" email address in the backup job, as described in the documentation here https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/chapter-notifications.html#notification_mode

If you have an email entered in the job, the backup notification uses the old sendmail notification. Removing the email from the backup job uses the new system, where I entered my gmail smtp setup. The other option is to change from "Auto" (sendmail if email entered) to "Notification system", but I did not want to change from the default to avoid future issues.
