Hello,

since a few days i have a problem with my backups. In cause of space problems on my backup hdd i just can save 1 backup of each Container and/or KVM. Everytime i want to backup i get a message that the process failed. The problem is that the vzdump doesn't delete the old backup.

Where i can change this manually for solve this. Or can i change somewhere else this setting.

I checked the cron job of vzdump but there is no command of removing or something else

0 12 * * 2,4,6,7 root vzdump 1007 1006 1005 1004 1003 --mode snapshot --storage Backups --quiet 1 --compress gzip --mailnotification always --mailto (email add) that's it

also storage.cfg

dir: Backups
path /mnt/backups
maxfiles 1
content backup

can someone help me please ^^ i use the newest proxmox version

vzdump will remove backups if the remove option is set to 1 (the default) and there are more than maxfiles backups. The removal will happen after a backup is complete (otherwise, the backup might fail and there is no backup at all!). So you need space for at least one temporary copy of your biggest backup, in addition to the backups you want to keep via maxfiles.

Hi thanks for your help but it doesn't work. I changed to 2 backups and after the second backup is on the device it failes again in cause of max backups. The Space is enough to cache a momentary backup. I try a backup now by hand with the --remove 1 and it works without any problems.
My problem is that my proxmox just use the remove option with 0 as default. So it looks like atm

INFO: starting new backup job: vzdump 1007 --remove 0 --mode snapshot --storage Backups --compress gzip --node prox
ERROR: Backup of VM 1007 failed - only 2 backup(s) allowed - please consider to remove old backup files.
INFO: Backup job finished with errors
TASK ERROR: job errors

ERROR: Backup of VM 1007 failed - only 2 backup(s) allowed - please consider to remove old backup files.

the auto removal works ONLY on scheduled backups.

if you run manual backups, you also have to delete manually before.

I tried this via console on the host system and it works. I don't delete it manually.
