This solved a particularly unwelcome boot problem. Some hairy ape who shall rename nameless cycled the power one time too many and the resulting lvmid not found grub error was solved with these tips. I did use lvextend -L +1M though; I was scared of using a gigabyte for this.

Happens to me, a lot. ZFS gives me troubles (I guess because one vdev is a USB drive) which in turn cause troubles for NFS which in turn hangs containers that have (had) a NFS mount. Hard reset the only cure.
