How can i change the apache web server port from port 80 to another port i.e. 8080, and place another website on port 80 just saying that this server is a mail gateway or something? this is so users can't just go to the public ip address / host name of the promox server and see the promox admin login screen etc etc?

Please use you Firewall

Changing the HTTP Port is currently not possible. But maybe you have a firewall where you can do arbitrary port redirections (DNAT).

no we cant as we are an isp, so the server needs to be public, there must be a way in the apache http conf files?

hi,
why can´t you apply firewall rules? running proxmox not behind a firewall is never recommended. you have to open just the ports needed - see the chapter 3.2 in the admin guide.

you can change it in this template file:

/var/lib/proxmox/templates/httpd.conf.in

make sure, that you change all 443 settings (or 80), there are 3 places.

This is not supported from proxmox and normally, after applying an servicepack these settings are lost. so use it with care.
