Clonning a filled ssd drive used as ZFS for a bigger one

What are you doing to send the disk to the VM? Are you mounting the physical drive directly or mounting a virtual hard disk?

If I recall when I set it up, it was a Vhd

Then you need to also extend the partition sdb1 and filesystem on it inside the VM.

To extend, you can use the parted command as in the beginning of this thread, but now inside the VM just ignoring the ZFS part (only using parted command)

OK, it is done. Now the partition is 1.7 TB


But, why is it still showing 818G on the /dev/sdb1 ??

You also need to resize the filesystem itself. You just extended the partition on which the filesystem is placed.

just for reference:

after unmounting the FS, I did:

$ sudo e2fsck -f /dev/sdb1
...
$ sudo resize2fs /dev/sdb1

now everything is as supposed!
