Click to expand... I have looked into importing a vmdk file via CLI but, its a bit longwinded and slow. I think it would improve Proxmox to have vmdk as an option along side ISO in the GUI. Because, vmdk are very widely used in both type 1 and 2 hypervisors, and having a quicker method of importing them would help.

When you add a disk, there is the option to create a vmdk disk, this disk can be overwritten by the disk that is intent for migration. This layer is only meant for compatibility and is not the most performant image type.
