just one comment: we do no use PHP, the web interface uses Perl

Its not important, but want to mention it:

We use AJAX, based on http://www.prototypejs.org/

We use SOAP for the management server http://www.soaplite.com/

(Everything implemented in perl).

So we do not use JAVA, but the technology is up to date, lightweight, fast and easy to use.
