Need some assistance recovering an LVM (thin) partition that contains my VMs.
TLDR version - An unanticipated reboot of of my PVE server, resulted in a boot to a Win11 boot partition on a drive recently installed in the server. Win11 rewrote the...
hey man, i know it’s late but hey ho.
having the exact same issue, and many many many more people have too.
I genuinely think the problem is just in the CPU itself, as all providers seem to avoid it when sell VPS.
Been struggling with it myself...
Good on you for getting everything sorted and working, but this seems ridiculously complex compared to simply having a proxmox server plus a separate desktop.
Before the RAMpocalypse you could find used laptops around $100 that you could...
I'll jump into the discussion even though I'm not the thread starter — there are some very fair points in your message (especially about the tteck scripts and the lack of real learning behind them).
I'd just like to nuance the point about "you...

What could be done to improve your feeling? Maybe switch to HyperV or VMware or Citrix and connect them directly to the internet without updating for years? I don't expect anyone to not update those for years at a time. How's Proxmox different...
So, you now got your security advisory for a vulnerability, in a over three year old version of a software component, which was at the time it would have been relevant neither internally discovered nor from anyone reported and hopefully also not...
I don't know any resource called "ttec". If you mean ttecks helper scripts: After tteck passed away it evolved to a community-maintained project. Personally however I think that these helper scripts are NOT a good resource for beginners except if...
Why? If you want to use vms on your desktop virt-manager or Virtualbox are easier to setup and use.
Alternative you could use incus which can also be installed on mon-debian systems.
And if you want to go full-virtualized for security concerns...
VM can't reach the outside world with a static IP usually comes down to one of a few things, and you can narrow it down fast from inside the guest.
First run the basics inside the VM:
ip a
ip r
ping x.x.x.1
If the gateway ping already fails...
Those are certainly good ideas, but would they really have prevented this specific bypass? I don’t know. But even if they would, it doesn’t matter. Software has to be kept up to date, especially when you expose it to the public internet...
An update on progress (diagnostic step which bypasses the problem, but is not a fix):
An edit to: "/etc/default/zfs"
to append:
# FIXME: test adding:
ZFS_INITRD_PRE_MOUNTROOT_SLEEP='5'
ZFS_INITRD_POST_MODPROBE_SLEEP='5'
Then running ...
I used this to inspect installed packages (dpkg -l) and review for possible older versions of the "same" package. I found 2, removed them, re-issued "update-initramfs -u" but problem on boot persists.
(I'm assuming that is where you were going...
Thanks. Fixed the code block was using ``<>````that I thought was applicable here. Apologies. New to Proxmox and would really like to know if this is an error that is fixable if it happens again. Can I add back the QEMU Guest Agent functionality?
