The point is: you can not know that. Of course you are free to use any available technology you want - and a lot of installations are using hardware Raid (edit: ... without a checksumming filesystem). No fight here; if it works for you/them...

Its entirely up to you. it is POSSIBLE to set up a hypervisor, a pbs vm, import the data, and restore- but by that logic you could just rebuild all your vms from scratch too. your RTO/RPO policies are your own.

I've often said that I am a ZFS fan. But hey, this is not the Butlerian Jihad with "filesystems" as the topic. The system I am using in this very moment has a normal ext4 filesystem :-)
