Hi,
i am planing a new PBS installation with round about 25 TB capacity.
My hardware:
  • 2x Intel Xeon E5-2620
  • 128 GB ECC DDR3 RAM
  • 2x 2TB SSD
  • 6 or 8 TB HDDs
  • Uplink 1 Gbit
Should i use ZFS RAID 10 or Z-RAID1 for this?
Only SSD setup is too expensive but i would use the SSDs as ZFS special device.

Schould i use deduplication?

I am not sure if the performance is good enough. I want not producing bottleneck on my storage pool. Limiting factor should be my uplink.

What is the best setup for me?

Hi,

Raid 10(you could expand your pool in the future, adding new HDDs to the pool).
Only SSD setup is too expensive but i would use the SSDs as ZFS special device.

If your SSDs are from enetrprise class(DataCenter), would be OK. For other cases is risky!
Befor use the SSDs as ZFS special device, take only one of them and try to write about 4-5 TB of data. This will minimise the risk that your BOTH SSD to have no valid cells at the same moment, and to lose entire pool/data!

Schould i use deduplication?

No. PBS deduplication is more eficient than zfs dedup.

Good luck / Bafta!
