I'm considering using this plugin for managing shared storage for ZFS:
https://github.com/TheGrandWazoo/freenas-proxmox

It's managing zvols and iSCSI shares remotely by SSH, so you can clone, snapshot, etc from Proxmox VE interface, while still using RAW ZFS (instead of much slower, additional layers, like QCOW2, etc)

I've heard it will collide with TrueNAS that will try to manage those resources too, but would like something realtively easy to manage for others (preferably by http)

I wonder if reflinks will be used when cloning VMs, etc, so ZFS v2.2.0 would be a useful then?

In the ZFS/iSCSI scheme the ZFS portion is the one that resides on the storage node side, ie freenas. So whatever version of ZFS is used on the storage, that is the one that is being utilized. PVE acts only as iSCSI initiator/client in this scheme, so no part of ZFS is exercised on PVE itself.

You'd need to either examine the plugin code, or reach out to developer of the plugin to find out what features are being utilized on the freenas/truenas side.
And, of course, consult the truenas documentation to find out what version of ZFS is actually present on their side.
