ZFS boot device failover question

I asked earlier and got good information for my planned rebuild to convert my server from a single LVM drive to a mirrored ZFS pool for the boot OS drives. I asked on a different forum as well and someone said that it wouldn't work when one drive fails "Cause the bootloader, initramfs etc. is still installed on the master outside of ZFS. You surely end up reinstalling the whole os."

I feel like this isn't correct but also acknowledge that I genuinely don't know either. Any clarity here would be appreciated.

Thanks again for responding here too. I made a new thread as I later recalled I think the mods here prefer new threads for new topics.
