I setting up a home server. Moving from an old freenas to proxmox.
I have testing and try to understand everything around ZFS but not sure.

What I have thinking
2x 256GB ssd for OS and some fast vm.
16x 2TB HDD for data, this set up as 2 Mirror Raidz2
8x 4 TB HDD for backup, this in Raidz2

I will also look at the option to add 1 or 2 ssd more for cache to Raidz2.

Is this a good way?

Another parts are the ZFS parts.
zpool/data with Thin Provision for vm

2TB Raidz
/tank2
/tank2/data2
/tank2/data2/file
/tank2/data2/media
/tank2/data2/photos
/tank2/iso
/tank2/vm

The reason for that I'm thinking about tank2/data2 is for mount that to a LXC for file server, and then have folders for file, media and photos.
What I have thinking is that I can then use snapshot of data and get all, but also from file, and not get so very big snapshot.

Hope anyone can give some feedback of what I have thinking.
