Hi Proxmox Team,

X.org is complaining about the high costs for their cloud hosted GitLab instance (~$90k overall). So one of the solutions would be to host GitLab on premises. But they're "afraid" of the high OPEX for maintenance.

Maybe Proxmox could get into a "sponsoring deal" with them for some support licenses, so they could use Proxmox on premises with low support expenses :)

Thanks for thinking of us!

I skimmed through the thread - and as far as I understood their discussion is still ongoing and not directly targeted towards leaving gitlab.fd.o - and going for a self hosted environment.

Should they decide on that and want to get support for deploying PVE - someone from the project should contact us via e-mail

PVE has also a VERY low cost-of-ownership compared to the hardware cost or even the electrical bill. If you would host everything yourself, you need staff that can take care of that, which comes also with a certain cost. It's not so easy to decide.

Technically, everything runs very smoothly and I also use GitLab on-premise on a PVE cluster with GitLab runners for CI and stuff.

I'm not sure they already have Proxmox on their radar. Btw - I'm not affilated at all in any way with X.org, I'm simply a happy Proxmox user and would love to see you being an even greater brick in the entire open source wall.

Same for me. As mentioned, maybe there could be a way to make Proxmox the technical base for a potential "on premise infrastructure" of X.org. Don't ask me "how", I'm no sales manager ;)
