Wyse 5070 as proxmox server with 32 GB RAM, memtest86+ slow readings

Hi

Linux experience:
Beginner (Crawler)

Target:
Functional, energy-efficient, fully operational proxmox server for learning and experimenting at home.

Hardware:
Dell Wyse 5070 with Intel Celeron J4005 and 32 GB RAM
(According to the official specification, 8 GB is the maximum but according to internet users, 32 GB also works*)
*source: https://fmdx.pl/2022/06/dell-wyse-5070-home-server/

Problem:
During memtest86+ there is a noticeable slowdown in memory reading between 30-32 GB. Before 30 GB nothing suspicious is seen. The test ends without errors.
The exact same problem was noted by the author of the post I linked to above.

Question:
Should I somehow mark the memory in the 30-32 GB range so that the system does not use it? How can this be done in proxmox?
Alternatively if I stay away from exceeding 30 GB should I be safe?

Thank you for your help and time

There are kernel parameters to limit the available memory, like max_addr= or mem=. I wouldn't worry too much about it; slow memory is still faster than swap.
EDIT: Is that CPU actually energy efficient (high speed per watt) or is it just very slow? Maybe the memory is not the performance bottleneck with this CPU...

This processor is rather slow and is certainly not at the top of the performance per watt rankings, but it draws only 10 watts which is fine with me. Intel itself states in the specs that this processor only supports 8 GB.

My concern is about unstable operation or errors that could occur. I'll look into the kernel parameters you've linked, but if you think there's not much danger in leaving things as they are then I'd lean toward that option.
