Hi,

I'm sorry if this is not the right place to ask this but I could really use some help to configure Proxmox on Hetzner.

I am not that knowledgeable on networking so I have hard time to set the VM's to connect to outside world. I could really use some help with this if someone would be so kind to help me out. I have tried the tutorials what I've found but somehow I guess I've messed something up.

Best Regards.

hi,

I have just installed ProxmoxVE 6.1 on a Hetzner AX161. What exactly is your problem? Please describe your setup as detailed as possible and also where you want to go with your configuration.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using an SB series one that I got just to test stuff out from the auction page but it came to my attention I could actually use it for doing some good right now with the situation around the globe but that would mean I'd need to "slice" the server up into different VMs/VPS's orhow ever you'd like to call it.

I got Proxmox installed without any problems but as soon as I try to create a new VM I'm stuck at the network tab as it's not showing up at all (I'm trying to do it with routed method). Per Hetzner's own tutorial I also enabled, sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_forward=1, forwarding but nothing is still happening.

Like I said, I'm not too smart on network parts so maybe I've missed something and thats why I came here and maybe someone would point me on my wrong doing.

Please post your node's network configuration:
`cat /etc/network/interfaces`

otherwise it's difficult to guess where the problem might be

The 224 ending netmask is what Hetzner's robot is showing me. But I also tried the 255 one. No luck so far. What I did see tho is that PM network device name is different than what Ubuntu install is showing me in the VM. Can that cause any problems?

it depends on how hetzner's network is configured in your case - if they have given you a /27 network directly connected you probably need to go with a bridged setup - i think in that case you need to register the mac-address of the guests with hetzner.
if they are routing the /27 to one of your IPs then you should configure that ip on your PVE-node and use that as the gateway for your guests (and enable ip forwarding)

not sure what you mean - but if you mean that PVE calls the interface on host tapXiY and that it's recognized as ens18 inside the guest - that's normal

I hope this helps!
