When I restarted the proxmox server,
The console of window10 becomes a black screen.
Version Virtual Environment 7.1-1
Is there anyone who suffers from the same problem?
Linux-based OS works well

Hello kazuo,

May I ask how you were able to work around the black screen to install the driver updates? I just started seeing this problem today.
I downloaded the new virtio drivers but cannot get to a place where I can update them.

I tried:
- Logging in as another user
- Pressing ctrl-alt-del and opening task manager (window briefly appears then closes)
- Rebooting into advanced troubleshooting mode to enable safe mode boot (VM still boots in regular mode)
- Booting in Command Prompt mode (can't seemingly install the drivers from the command line)
- Connecting by noVNC, Console in Proxmox, and RDP (black screen in all cases)

Thank you!

You said you had already tried RDP.
If you can give me some advice later
(1) Restart the .proxmox server
(2). Restart the guest OS (windows10)
(3). After finishing (1) and (2), connect with RDP.
Why don't you try it here?

Yes, I restarted Proxmox early in the troubleshooting. Later I even updated the host from Proxmox 6.4 to 7.2 so it has been restarted multiple times. The guest has also been restarted several times.

The result is the same after the restarts no matter if I connect at the console in the browser, with novnc in a window, with the built-in Windows RDC tool, or my preferred connection manager mRemoteNG.

I get the Windows login screen and after logging in as any user the desktop is black. I can press ctrl-alt-del and get the selection screen with Lock, Sign Out, Change a Password, and Task Manager. The first 3 choices do what is expected. Task Manager opens the window for about 1 second then goes back to the black screen. I can't get to the Run dialog to start Device Manager or anything else.

This VM is a Windows home server for me and all of its background functions are working fine, I just can't log into it. Very frustrating. I should have some more time to look at it tomorrow.

Are you using microsoft's remote desktop connection without a browser?
To use it, you need Pro or higher version.
Later, when calling Task Manager on the remote desktop, you need the [ctrl] + [Alt] + [End] keys.

Yes, Microsoft RDC and have also tried with my preferred 3rd party connection manager tool.
This is a Windows 10 Pro VM that has been running fine for years and that I have connected to with RDC regularly many, many times.

The login screen from the Proxmox console works but as soon as I log in as any user, black screen.

Same with Windows Remote Desktop Connection application, both from a physical PC and another guest VM after it authenticates.

Another Windows VM on the same Proxmox node works fine, even after Windows Updates and a restart.

This just started on this particular VM in the last few days. I connected to it successfully 3 days ago.

The provided link is about a profile problem, but this happens with any profile of any created user on the system.
This VM does file sharing, cloud backup, Plex, TV show/movie management. All of it still works completely fine.
No data is lost or at risk, since I can get to everything important on the shares and even \\ip-address\c$ just fine.
I just can't log into it interactively as a user with any method because the screen is black.
Thanks for your help. I will have to decide which way to proceed, I guess.
I'm sure I will eventually need to rebuild it but as long as it keeps working I'll probably just leave it alone until it can't be avoided.

I'm sorry I couldn't answer your question
Fortunately, it was unfortunate that the necessary data was safe.
It seems that many updates of proxmox are being provided today, so I hope that you can solve it by implementing and checking this.
