Windows VMs backup considerably larger

I notice when I do my daily backups of the Windows VMs, they are considerably larger than my Linux guest VMs. for example, a Linux guest with a 30GB drive will result in 1GB of data backed up. However, a Windows 2019 guest with a 70 GB drive will backup 13GB in the same time. Neither of these guests are particularly active. Is this just because Windows is a busier OS? If so is there a way to reduce that?

Hi,

Windows has: pagefile, hibernation, updates, disks defragmentation, copilot and antivirus activities (if you have it) etc.
If add the software plus some DBs (if used) and you have solid amount of the changed data inside the VM.
Check all mentioned above and you will see what can be reduced.
You're right Windows is always busier OS)
