PBS
proxmox Backup server 3.2-2

Issue Description:

Hello Proxmox Community,

I am encountering an issue where my Windows VM (details above) consistently freezes every night after it completes a backup on Proxmox Backup Server (PBS). Here are the specifics:
  • The VM operates without issues during the day and only freezes after the nightly backup.
  • I have restored the backup on a different system, and the restored VM works perfectly fine, indicating that the backup itself is not corrupted.
  • The freeze requires a hard reset of the VM to get it operational again.

Steps Taken:

  1. Checked System Logs: I reviewed the logs on both the Proxmox server and the Windows VM but did not find any obvious errors or issues around the time the backup completes.
  2. Reviewed Backup Logs: The backup logs on PBS indicate that the backup completes successfully without any errors.
  3. Resource Monitoring: Monitored CPU, memory, and disk usage during the backup process. There are no significant spikes or resource exhaustion observed.

Request for Assistance:

I am looking for guidance on how to diagnose and resolve this freezing issue. Specifically:
  • Are there known issues with the current versions of Proxmox VE and PBS that might cause this behavior?
  • Are there specific logs or diagnostic steps I should follow to pinpoint the cause of the VM freezing?
  • Any recommendations on configuration changes or best practices to prevent this from happening?
Any help or insights from the community would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Best regards

Have you tried fleecing disks - provided you have the room...
Its in the Datacenter backup job definition.
