Hello everyone,
I recently tested migrating Windows Server 2019 machines from VMware to Proxmox. The process went smoothly overall, but I ran into an issue I don't fully understand, and I'm hoping someone here can clarify it.
I performed the import directly from the ESXi host. However, for the Windows Domain Controller, I forgot to switch its network adapter to the OVS guest bridge beforehand. Instead, it was connected to the vmbr0 Linux bridge, which serves as the management interface. Although vmbr0 is on the same subnet as the rest of the machines (with no VLANs configured—just one network), I noticed a peculiar behavior.
After completing the migration, the DC was issuing IP addresses only to other virtual machines on the vmbr0 bridge. It would not provide leases to a physical test client on the same network. This changed only after I noticed my misconfiguration and switched the DC’s network adapter to the OVS guest bridge—which is on the same network/switch but does not have an assigned IP address.
Could someone please explain why this occurs?
Thank you!
