Hello,

i have a problem with "Windows Server 2012 R2" Virtualmachines and ESET Filesecurity.

We have migrated some machines from VmWare to Proxmox.
After that the issue is, that hughe networktraffic freezes the VM.

Hole performance of the Machine is great, but when i copy a file (5 GB) from a network drive to the machine, the hole machine freezes until the transfer is completed.
Ping goes up from 1ms to 30ms, RDP-Session freezes.

When i uninstall ESET, the problem goes away.
It gets a bit better, when the KVM gehts more CPUs and the the Network-Adapter is Intel, but not much.

Has anyone the same problem or solved it?

Both, ESET and Proxmox are on newest versions.
Even a fresh install of Server2012r2 has the same problem.

Regards
Andreas

One thing you could try is enabling IO-Threads for each disk of the server
(Based on the assumption that ESET causes high disk I/O (being an antivirus), which blocks network I/O and other things as well)

apart from that you could also experiment with the Cache Mode of the disks

I hope this helps!

Thanks Stoiko,

I disabled Cache Mode and enabled ioThreads.
But no change.

When i copy from one disk to another, i get great performacne 500 Mbyte/s.
It seems to have something to do with network-interface and scanning the traffic.

I wrote a ticket to ESET, too.

Best regards,
Andreas
