I have vanilla clean win 10 guest i use for test installs of our application ie I roll back and forth frequently when testing configurations. Storage is sata ssd ext4 qcow2. The roll back takes 20+ mins when there have been minimal changes. Our install is 200mb at most. Rollback for a mac guest is much faster. The snapshot was taken with the VM off so no ram.
Guest has virtio installed and guest agent.
Can I do anything on win guest to improve the rollback speed? The waiting is rather frustrating.

It seems if you snapshot with a mounted CD ROM it causes the delay. I removed the cd from hardware with option do not use media took another snapshot and rollback is now 1m 5s. :)

interesting !
block based vm disks stored in a lvmthin datastore should be more efficience and fast than qcow2 over ext4.

I switched to lvmthin from qcow2 and the rollback is almost instant which is great for testing. However when the win 10 guest starts I always get the chkdsk message and if dont catch in time it checks the disk and just as slow. Ditn get that with qcow2. Ive diabled via chkntfs /x C: for now if anyone else has issue.
