Encountered strange behaviour while changing Windows Server 2022 edition from Standard to Datacenter. If Windows Server 2022 Standard was migrated from vmware (via attached esxi storage at pve -> import), then issuing "DISM /Online /Set-Edition:ServerDatacenter /ProductKey:<hidden> /AcceptEula", after restart that VM is accesible only by RDC and only by local user/admin - everything becomes broken (logonui.exe, searchapp.exe, etc), because Windows loses it's edition description in registry. Tried same Windows 2022 Server edition change on a VM which was installed directly on pve - no problem at all.
Didn't find any additional info regarding this behaviour.
As a precaution, before changing edition - enable local admin (and set a password), enable RDC.
In case you (as in my case) can access Windows Server VM only via RDC as a local admin, these three registry keys fixes everything (if you were changing edition from Standard to Datacenter):
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v EditionID /t REG_SZ /d ServerDatacenter /f
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v CompositionEditionID /t REG_SZ /d ServerDatacenter /f
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v ProductName /t REG_SZ /d "Windows Server 2022 Datacenter" /f
pve 8.4.19, esxi 7.0.3
