I am trying to pass through an ssd with a windows 10 install already on the ssd. I can pass it through to the vm and boot it up everything works fine for the first few minutes until it freezes the vm. The host does not freeze.

I am using the latest version of proxmox ve 6.1

The host
---------------------------------
AMD 3950x
64 gb ddr4

vm
----------------------------------
I pass through 12 threads [host]
32gb ddr4
SSD passthrough virtio
BIOS OVMF
Machine q35
networking virtio
and I pass through two usb ports: one for keyboard and one for mouse

and yes I did install the virtio drivers on the os

Passing through a gpu causes the same thing to happen.

I also tried installing a fresh windows 10 on a different storage medium and this does not happen, but it defeats the purpose. I would like to pass through the ssd in which windows 10 is already installed.

o and one more thing, if I boot into safe mode on the freezing windows 10 install it does not freeze. I have checked windows event manager and don't see anything.

Hi,

this sounds like a driver problem.
Have you removed all HW drivers from the old System?

I figured it out. There was software that directly controls the motherboard lighting. Once I uninstalled that everything is working great.
