Thank you again for this wonderful product. It has proven to be solid as a rock (as long as I don't mess things up). I have run into a little snag while converting a Windows 2003 box over to KVM. I followed the directions provided on the Migration instructions and that went fine. However I am getting hung up on the Paravirtualized Network Drivers install portion. Everything goes fine right up to where I am installing the Qumranet Paravirtualized Ethernet Adapter Driver. It gets to the point where it is copying kvmnet.sys over to the C:\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers folder and it just sits there. See attached image.

The configuration for the container is as follows:

name: testconvert
ide2: kvm-driver-disc-20080318.iso,media=cdrom
smp: 1
bootdisk: ide0
ide0: test.qcow2
ostype: w2k3
memory: 512
vlan0: virtio=FE:88:61:02:A6:DD

I do not see anything jumping out at me from the syslog either. Any suggestions or ideas as to something I am missing? Or more specifically what I messed up along the way?
Thank you,
Ben

Hi,

have you done the virtIO driver install in any test 2003 instances successfully, for reference ?

I had done testing last month, and had done some test 2003 environment setup, and I believe no issues arose when I installed the VirtIO driver.. it just installed. This was different from your setup of course, in that I had done a clean OS install into the KVM environment, rather than a migration of a physical machine ..

also to clarify/confirm: in your present case -- the problem is that things hang at the point where you took the screenshot ? Some other symptoms of problem?

Thanks for clarification. Odd. Certainly that wasn't behaviour I had seen.

Just to confirm also (redundant question I suspect),

you did follow the step of,

-- stopping the KVM Virtual host
-- flipping the NIC provided to VirtIO
--- as per illustration visible at the URL,

http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Image:Screen-Network-Card-virtio.png

-- then proceeding with powering on the virtual host and installing the driver ..

?

That is how I did it. It would run when I used the rtl18139 option but when I shutdown and switch it over. The OS loads, it sees the new nic. I select the drivers and it just stalls there..

the drivers are not signed, so please check that your windows accepts not signed drivers. also, there are newer drivers available, see http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=180599
