Why Qemu incremental backup is not supported by Proxmox

It would be great to have a faster method for backups,
we already have terabyte disks for our VMs and it doesn't make sense to make a full backup of them everynight.
If anyone knows a stable third party solution for this, please do tell.

I also think ZFS is the option to go here. I'm just about to set up testing PM 5 cluster, where one node will receive ZFS snapshots from other nodes up to per minute intervals. Plan is to have this node with more space than others as a backup server, where VMs can also be started in case of total failure of some other node in the cluster or ZFS snaps just sent back to primary nodes.

Yes, shoud work, yet without HA.

Having a SAN with ZFS at its heart is also a great way to go.

Why can't we install it? It is available for update.

Yes I saw that, but I'll wait for the documentation to get updated and other users to report any possible bugs :)
But it is an extremely interesting and long-awaited feature on backups. It will eliminate the need to have a third party backup solutions.
To be honest, having to take a full backup of your VMs every time didn't make sense that much.

That's the lib, not the program. The program is not for install at the moment.

There exist the following git repositories:

https://git.proxmox.com/?a=project_list&s=backup&btnS=Search

only one of them is currently packaged. If you already want to dive into the documentation, have a look at the docs.

Yes, you are correct. But why Proxmox would want to publish the lib without the program,
Maybe it will integrate into the existing backup feature.
