Which NIC to use?

Hello!

I maintain a Java server with high traffic. With Debian, OpenVZ and a cheap NIC we had no problem. We changed to Proxmox becouse we're pleased with it on other hardware nodes.
First the NIC dropped a lot of packages. We changed to the motherboard's integrated card and it "solved" the problem. But we need a second NIC for DMZ.
We tried an Intel, a Linksys and a D-Link card then. The effect is same for all three. The integrated NIC disappears and the connected also drops 60% of packages at high traffic.

The hardware node hosts only two active VPS-s. An application server with public IP and an SQL server with internal only IP. We have a test environment with other two VPS-s too, but it's down.

The mainboard is ASUS P5QL Pro, the CPU is Intel Q8400 (Core2Quad 2.66GHz)

Since I haven't found any NIC compatibility lists, just motherboards, can anyone suggest a CAT5 1Gbps NIC for high load?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know if is your case, but I had similar problem with an asus board with integrated Attansic Technology Corp. L1 Gigabit nic. The problem were solved moving proxmox from 2.6.18 to 2.6.24 kernel. Maybe it worths a try.

Thanks. I should have written the kernel version is 2.6.24

Code:
usr@host# uname -r
2.6.24-8-pve

btw, your kernel is outdated, go for the latest. 2.6.24
