When is Backmode Snapshot working?

Hi, I read this two wiki articles:

https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Storage

snapshot mode requires that all backed up volumes are on a storage that supports snapshots.

I tested the backup in snapshot mode an it works also with a container stored in directory on lvm/ext4 filesystem, but according to the wiki this type of storage seems not to be supported. What have I unterstood wrong?
