When deduplication happens?

I want to use proxmox-backup-client to backup 500k small files (+-100GB total), which usually stay not changed between backups.

1. Is this good idea?
2. Will the client automatically upload only new/changed files? (good)
Or will it every time upload all the files and it's server's job to deduplicate them? (bad)

which usually stay not changed between backups.
do you mean they don't stay the same, or they don't change?

did you already see/read this: https://pbs.proxmox.com/docs/technical-overview.html ?

if the chunks it generates are the same as in the previous backup, it won't upload it, but the server will deduplicate too if the client uploads them
(note that the chunks are targetetd to be ~4MiB, so if the files are smaller, multiple files are combined to a chunk)
