What's the Easiest Way to Remove a NIC Pinning/Renaming?

Hello,

I'm about to reconfigure the networking in one of my nodes, and the first step will be actually removing and replacing an Intel x550 with an Intel x710.

I've previously used the

pve-network-interface-pinning

tool to assign my physical NICs more convenient names.

Is there a way to automatically undo the pinning using the tool before I pull the card, or am I going to have to do that manually?

Hi,

it's safe to just pull out the card. The link pinning is done via the MAC address of the NIC, meaning the link file will just do nothing if the NIC does not actually exist.

To remove the link file completely, delete the corresponding file in /usr/local/lib/systemd/network.
FWIW, you can even delete the pinning file before shutting down and pulling the card out, as it's only read on boot.
