What's the difference between a Virtual Appliance and a VE running the same thing?

I am just curious, no details on the Wiki. Please pardon my ignorance on the new virtualization technologies. Just trying to understand/absorb as much as I can.

Nothing, when you get it running ;-)

But the virtual appliance is delivered as 'pre-configured' tar file. So it is usually much faster and simpler to install.

For example, "Request Tracker" is quite hard to install (or impossible for a normal user). But with the virtual appliance its just a few clicks.
