what's the best way to to host a steamCmd game?

first of I know thats there a lot a security risk's and 2nd I am just playing around with Proxmox VM'S so this is something that I would just like to play around with. So would Ubuntu be best or something else? as i could not find any info after a day of searching not sure about any of it the game I would like to try would be Subsistence. BTW I am a total noob at this.

You can also use other lightweight distributions like Debian, but Ubuntu provides more convenience if you are a beginner.
Regarding the settings, you will need to make sure that you have all the necessary libraries for SteamCMD, as well as set the correct permissions to run the server. Since this is an experiment, I would also recommend visiting forums or communities where they discuss the settings of such servers to find the most optimal solutions.
