what happens to a mail in spam quarantine once the quarantine is expired?

it's probably a silly question, but we are not sure about it:

what happens to a mail in spam quarantine, when the quarantine expire? is the message delivered? or deleted?

we just forget to check the quarantine, and be sure to know what will happen to spam messages.

(if take literally the definition of the term 'quarantine', then I guess all emails will be delivered...)
