Weird VEEAM Behaviour on Windows VM depending on machine type

Hi all,

A bit of a weird one here, leaving this here in case anyone finds themselves in the same boat as we did.

Colleague installed a VEEAM backup on a clean installation of Windows Server 2019, wanted to add a Dell DD6400 Data domain as a repository. This was already working on another VEEAM VM in the same cluster, mind you.

No luck, when adding the repository, this error pops up :

Code:
Detecting server configuration Error: Failed to call RPC function 'GetBiosUuid': Error code: 0x80004005. Cannot query class instance from enumerator object.

Failed to call RPC function 'GetBiosUuid': Error code: 0x80004005. Cannot query class instance from enumerator object.

After trying all sorts of things, we migrated the VM to the host where the other, working, VEEAM VM lives. Downgrade the machine version to pci440fx 7.1 because this is an older 7.3 Node (yes I know). DD6400 is added without any issue.

After a bit of fiddling, we've noticed everything works in machine version 8.0 or below. Anything 8.1 and above doesn't work correctly.

Cheers

Thank you for the info. I experienced the same problem. Windows VM in Proxmox 8.2 and Veeam 12.2. When I tried to add NFS repository I got the same error:

Detecting server configuration Error: Failed to call RPC function 'GetBiosUuid': Error code: 0x80004005. Cannot query class instance from enumerator object.

Changing the machine version to 8.0 helped.
