VM not starting anymore

Hello everyone,

I have a very big problem with one of my VM's om my server.
I found it this morning with the status IO-ERROR and a restart was not solving the problem at that time.
I also found that i have had problems with my backups, so i really have a big issue here.


I restored a backup of the complete VM but still the VM is not booting becouse it does not seem to see that there is a bootable harddisk .

Can anyone please help me?

Press F12 there and select the correct HD. If it boots, is just a matter to go to Options of the VM and select the right boot device, if it does seems that you have troubles in the HD of the VM, try to boot with systemrescuecd.iso and troubleshoot.

I already did : qemu-img check vm-101-disk-1.qcow2

But the result was :

No errors were found on the image.
4096000/4096000 = 100.00% allocated, 0.00% fragmented, 0.00% compressed clusters
Image end offset: 268476678144

I can't find out why it is not a bootable device anymore :-(

My last 5 customers are already hanging me becouse of this problem.
I only needed this server to run for a few months to migrate the customers to another web-hoster.

Please anybody help me to make this VM server bootup again

You could:

1. Create a new VM with a Disk with the same capability or higher. This VM with Nothing
1. Start the VM
2. Press F12 and STOP the Process
3. Get your old VM Disk and copy to the New VM:
# dd if=OLDVMDISK of=NewVMDISK bs=50M
example: # dd if=vm-101-disk-1 of=/var/lib/vz/images/102/vm-102-disk-1 bs=50M
4. When ends please, STOP the VM
5. Start the VM

What is the operating system? If it is a Windows based system, you could boot off of a Windows setup disk and attempt a repair of any Windows installation it finds on the disk.
