Good Day

So i am new to Proxmox and i would like to know how i can do the below/

I have an DL 360G7 with 2x Xeons & 192GB RAM.

I want to setup some Windows 10/11 VM's - This i know how to do

Then what i want to do is use an KVM Switch, HDMI, USB KB/M for one of the VM;s over CAT6 so it can get used.

The plan is to setup a few KVM Switches Per VM so people in the house can each have there own setup etc...

How do i do this and is it possible.

Thanks

Jup, a GPU for each VM (a PCI USB card for each VM is more optional if you just want to use a mouse and keyboard and you got enough USB ports, as you could use USB passthrough).
But might be easier to not use that KVM switch and just use RDP, SPICE, or Parsec to remote connect to those VMs. Then you don't need to buy a lot of GPUs in case you don't need the hardware acceleration for the VMs. Or if you need it, you could try to use a single Nvidia GPU, and split it into virtual GPUs using vGPU and PCI passthrough those virtual GPUs into the VMs. But that's more of a grey area and quite hacky.

Thanks @LnxBil & @Dunuin

So in the end what i want to do is have an VM Running and in the other side of the house over CAT6 use an KVM so you can access to VM. I do not want to spend tons on new hardware just for windows machines when i have a server that can do it :)

Do you have some recommendations on hardware & also is there an guide on how to do the pass though since i an very new to this.

Thanks again.

Oh Also how should i do the Disks. Use then in RAID 1 Mirror via the HP Controller or what is the best to do this as i can put 8 Disks in.

Yes, but a small linux thin-client box with keyboard+mouse and display attached to it connecting to the VM over ethernet/wlan using RDP/SPICE/Parsec might also be an option. And then for example a Windows Server VM that allows multiple users connecting to it at the same time. That way you just need a single WinVM for multiple clients and one GPU would also be enough.

That depends...if you got a HW raid controller software raid like ZFS isn't really an option.

Thanks for this. Well the HP P420i I think this is what i have in there. So i am not sure if i can disable this or change it to JBOD Mode if not then i take it ZFS is out of the Question,

Any Hardware Recommendations at all ?

Replace with a "dumb" SAS HBA, e.g. any SAS2008-based controller and juse use them. It works well with HP hardware and I use them in every ZFS setup I have.

Thanks, Any one you recommend or just anything that will work. I will also see if i can since the Backplane is using the onboard controller.

Also what ZFS Should i use if i can get this right :)
