Hi,
we using Proxmox PVE in our support departmant to quickly create test setups from templates. Sometimes these machines will be deleted after some hours and sometimes they exist for months and it will be done many changes on it to replicate customer specific issues.
To avoid that we losing the bigger and complexer machines in case of a hardware failure, we also have the Proxmox Backup Server running.
We see in this case the following issue, the backup server reference the machines by the ID of the VM or Container. That mean we have machines which show 10 backups, but these are from different machines that had the same ID in the past.
The best solution for us would be that the backup server can seperate this, but for now we try to not reuse IDs in the way that we do something like a ring counter.
The question is, is it possible that the suggestion you get for the ID in Proxmox don't use the lowest available value, more a counter that counting up and starts at 100 when it reached the max value. For sure it will skip IDs that still exist. For us that would mean that the backup server already have deleted the backups, when we reach the same ID again.
Thanks,
Hubert
