vlan in proxmox

Hi,
I have a few proxmox server at home and want to practice vlan, I want to connect some vms to specific vlan. my question is for vlan do I have to buy a physical switch or I can do it with linux bridge/openvswitch ?

Actually I want to learn in software defined model not hardware model.

I see this but with this option does it need physical switch in my network ? this is my question actually.
