Virtio disk drivers detecting multiple drives

I migrated a Windows 2000 VM from vmware to KVM using this howto:

Using an IDE disk it works fine. I tried to migrate to a virtio block device using information on this thread:

It seemed to go well. However, Windows 2000 now detects 18 disks...all with seemingly the same data. My Windows 2000 VMWare host was 35GB separated into 2GB files...I'm wondering if that is what it is detecting.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

i had this also when i used vmware converter to migrate physical machines to virtual machines - it automatically splitted all the data into 2gb files;

i did a system-state backup from the windows, created a new big imagefile and restored the windows machine;

I created a single growable image file as well, using the following command:

vmware-vdiskmanager -r win2000.vmdk -t 0 win2000-pve.vmdk

and then converted that single image to qcow2 format using this:

qemu-img convert -f vmdk win2000-pve.vmdk -O qcow2 win2000-pve.qcow2

It worked fine when specifying the disk as IDE. Only when specifying the disk as virtio do I see a whole bunch of extra disks.

Were you using virtio?

Also, there had been a snapshot taken in the VMWare VM. I didn't think of it as being a problem because the conversion worked with IDE. Could that be causing the issue?

Also, I tried converting from qcow2 format to raw format...That didn't change anything for me.

Windows 2000 seems to be the only OS with this problem. Anytime I create a qcow2 file for use by win2k it detects multiple disks. Server 2003 does not have the issue...and linux of course does not have the issue.
