Veeam 13.1 and VMware migrations

Just an FYI for those migrating from VMware to PVE and have Veeam. The latest version that came out this week, 13.1 has a very nice new feature. During a restore of the VM to Proxmox, it will automatically inject the VirtIO drivers. It will set the SCSI Controller to VirtIO SCSI Single, set the disk(s) to SCSI and also set the NIC to Virtio. The VM boots up correctly the first time with no driver injection or other hoops to jump through. The VM will reboot a few times as drivers are loaded, but this feature makes the migration even easier. QEMU Guest Agent is also installed and enabled. Also 13.1 introduce Replication of VM's and supports setting the vlan tag during restore.

On the same topic. If you have already been running PVE+Veeam, and are upgrading Veeam to 13.1.x make sure to update the granular sudo ruels for PVE as they have been changed for 13.1.

We also found that port 6162 and 6160 are being used to communicate with the Worker VMs from the backup server - unclear if this is an intended change as it is not documented in the Veeam user guide(yet). https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/userguide/pve_used_ports.html?ver=13
