Using multiple subnets

I have a class C, which I have divided into multiple subnets based on function. The proxmox server itself is in one of these subnets. I am trying to configure it so I can use venet on OpenVZ machines in other subnets. As near as I can tell, this means adding IP's in the other subnets to the host machine. I have not been able to figure out how to do this.

I have also read a number of posts, both here and at openvz. Most of them seem to end with unanswered questions. I have attempted to set up source-based routing, but this either has no effect, or I get errors such as "RNETLINK answers: No such process". In this last case, I was trying to set up the route so that all source IP's in the target IP block go to the router's IP for that block. I'm assuming that since the host has no IP in that range, it failed.

I gather that a few people have managed to set up something similar to what I want to do. Are there any howtos available on this?

I'd like to be able to set the IP from Proxmox, rather than within the guest. So I'm hoping to figure out to use venet for the additional subnets.
