Good Day,

I posted these questions in a solved thread, but I think a better option is to create a new one.
  1. Let's assume I've used a classic backup system for PVE. Today I decided to start using the PBS solution. Till now, my backup was stored on a backup dedicated NFS share and was based on the classic scheduler. When I connect an existing NFS share, will PBS erase existing data on this share and create its own system, or will it continue saving data along with old backups? If NFS stays untouched, will PBS be able to use deduplication on that?

  2. I have a cluster with "n" nodes. Do I need to install a PBS VM on each one? If so, how to use shared NFS storage on all PBS instances, which I asked about above? And how do I synchronize jobs/backups then?

  3. What are the advantages and risks of installing the PBS directly on PVE hosts? Can the directory (NFS storage mounted via PVE web UI) be shared between PVE having PBS installed and other virtualization/hosts for backups without issues?

  4. DRS -- Is there any solution to make some recovery plan by scheduled tasks? I mean here DRS for ISO policies standards. I worked at Storware (vProtect software manufacturer) as a software tester/pre-sale specialist, where we made Proxmox backup solutions. The company greatly emphasized DRS solutions, which were designed exceptionally well (scheduled recovery tasks and everything around that), but there were other shortcomings related to Proxmox backup and restoration. What does the PBS approach look like in the case of DRS?

1. No, PBS create its own folder structure. Let the files untouched, but Start backup from 0. deduplication is Working

2.no, on every node the backup-client from PBS is installed.PBS self is only for saving.

3. not necessary .

4.????

  1. OK

  2. As I understand here, we can assume that PBS acts only as a backup storage "manager" saving the money by not forcing us to buy some Dell/IBM matrixes or other enterprise solutions. So instead of installing TrueNAS or OMV for backup, it's enough to install PBS on some Dell/IBM/HP/Fujitsu server with thousands of TB and then use it as backup storage?

  3. What is mean "not necessary"?

  4. ??? I meant a solution allowing me to test backups by recovering them with regular schedules, freeing me from performing this job manually. This is how I understand the DRS based on schedulers.

2. Yes and u can install a second PBS offsite and sync both

3. proxmox-backup-client do the job. Its already installed on every node

4. no, u habe to do it manually
