We are an MSP. We would like to be able to:
Run Proxmox VE on local physical servers and backup to LOCAL storage
Run Proxmox Backup Server in the cloud (like on VULTR or competetor)
Is this possible?
You could run a local PBS (PBS can run on the same machine as PVE, either bare metal side by side or in a LXC or in a VM) and a second offsize PBS and setup a sync task so that the offsite PBS will pull the backups from the local PBS.
When you say pull the backups are you talking about the storage too or just the status? We don't want to store ANYTHING on the cloud server. We are essentially just looking for a centralized management and monitoring.
PBS needs good IOPS performance therefore you want local storage for your PBS. Wouldn't make sense in my opinion to run the PBS server somewhere in the cloud while having the datastore somewhere else. That would just add more latency lowering the performance.
I am not wanting to store the data in the cloud.
I have multiple proxmox ve servers and would like a central place to monitor the status of the backups.
Having to log into 200 servers vs just one for example.
There is email notification on failed backups if you don't want to monitor individual PVE hosts. And PBS also got a webUI where you could monitor running tasks.
If you use a single PBS server for all your 200 PVE servers then the PBS webUI is your centralized stop. All running and failed backups will be listed there.
