Hello,
I was trying to search for this on the forum ( i tried like 30-40 different search terms but not avail, that i saw.

have now a server I installed PVE 7.1
it has only IP address 123.xx.xx.xx:8006 this works and I have installed 1 VM with AlmaLinux and cPanel and running fine for 3 websites.
Now on the PVE server I want to setup a domain name instead of the IP address for GUI for Proxmox and use a free SSL for login to Proxmox GUI.

I am going to purchase another domain from google domains and use dns 1 dns2 dns3 of google. or point domain to my IP address

I don't know where to input the dns1 dns2 aetc or if this is needed?

Also what else I need to change other than hostname so Email Notifications for backup etc can be sent to me.

Sorry for dumb question, I have been trying for a couple days to figure this out or google it, but not really anyone has a guide, it is most local servers at home.

I am newbie but love Proxmox

Thank you Spiro

If you purchase a domain name through google, you will be able to manage the DNS entry for your domain and add your IP address via your google account

so I just point my domain to the IP address and change hostname on Proxmox?
nothing else to add in proxmox?

thanks for your reply. I use cpanel on all my websites and never had to do this on a server before. perfect time to learn I guess

Thanks for your help in advance

google has their own version of cpanel - if you purchase a domain name through google you use their version of cpanel to update the dns records. You don't need to change the hostname on proxmox, you are simply pointing the domain record to your public IP. if you are intending to enable access to your proxmox host to the internet I would suggest you change the GUI port from 8006, change your default SSH port from 22 (or disable it), choose a non-standard username (i.e not root) and use a strong complex password - otherwise you are asking for trouble !!
