USB to HDMI Adapter Passthrough for Windows 11 VM – Anyone Tried This?

Hi everyone,

I'm running a Windows 11 VM on Proxmox and need direct HDMI output. My iGPU passthrough is not an option, so I’m considering passing through a USB to HDMI adapter (StarTech USB 3.0 to Dual HDMI) and using it as a display output.

My Question:
Has anyone successfully used a USB to HDMI adapter for display output in a Proxmox VM?

Does Windows 11 detect the adapter properly after USB passthrough?
Is there any noticeable lag or performance issues?
Any specific USB passthrough settings needed for DisplayLink-based adapters?
I've attached a photo of the adapter I'm considering. Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Although I have done this with a USB sound adapter, never video.
Why do you need to see the VM's screen on a physical monitor anyways?

might be better off with one of these since you need the other peripherals to work also, but you would need type C port on the host1742584795653.png
